Emoji Poker is five-card draw with one deliberate simplification: there are no betting rounds. Everyone antes into the pot, gets five cards from a real 52-card deck, holds the ones they like, draws once to replace the rest, and the best hand takes the pot. That removes the bluffing, which means the whole game comes down to two questions — what beats what, and what should I hold?
What beats what
From best to worst. The odds are for a fresh five-card deal from a standard deck; you will see plenty of pairs and a straight flush once in a very long lifetime.

Ties are broken by rank: a pair of kings beats a pair of nines, a straight to the queen beats a straight to the ten, and if the made part of two hands is identical, the highest leftover card decides it.
One thing to know about Emoji Poker's deck: the four "suits" are the site's four categories, drawn as emoji, rather than hearts and spades. A flush is five cards from one category. The odds are exactly the same as a normal deck because there are still four suits of thirteen cards; it just looks friendlier.
The single draw
You hold whatever you want and replace the rest, once. That one draw is the entire skill of the game, and the correct choices are well established because people have been playing draw poker for two centuries. The rules of thumb:
Hold a pair, draw three. This is the most common decision you will face. Do not keep a high "kicker" alongside the pair to try to make two pair; drawing three cards gives you a better chance of improving to trips or better than drawing two does.
Hold two pair, draw one. You are hoping for the full house. Roughly one draw in twelve gets there.
Hold three of a kind, draw two. Not one. Drawing two cards gives you a better shot at the full house or quads.
Hold four to a flush, draw one. About one draw in five completes it. Four to a flush beats keeping a small pair, because a flush beats nearly everything you will see at a game-night table.
Hold four to an open-ended straight, draw one. Open-ended means the four cards are consecutive with room at both ends, like 6-7-8-9. About one draw in six completes it. If the straight has a gap in the middle (6-7-9-10 needs exactly an 8), your odds halve, and a small pair is usually better.
With nothing, hold the ace and draw four — or hold nothing. A single high card is barely worth keeping. If you are dealt junk, you are mostly hoping the rest of the table was dealt junk too.
Never break a made hand for a bigger one. If you have a straight, keep the straight. Four to a royal flush is a pretty thing to look at and a one-in-forty-seven shot.
What changes when there is no betting
In a normal poker game, most hands are won by the person who bets confidently, not the person with the best cards. Emoji Poker takes that away, and it changes the strategy more than you would expect:
- There is no fold. Everyone who anted sees the showdown. So the only thing that matters is finishing with the best five cards, and every decision above is pure probability.
- Pot size is fixed by the ante. You cannot build a big pot with a big hand, so the value of a monster hand is the same as the value of a pair of sevens that happens to win. That makes the "draw for the flush or keep the pair" decision closer than it is at a betting table: take the flush draw if you think the table is strong, keep the pair if the table is weak.
- You can read faces but not chips. Around a real table people give things away. Use it. If your friend groans at their cards, a pair of jacks is probably good.
